FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions by clients:

What is the line up of the Band?

The standard Big Band comprises 5 saxophones, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, a rhythm section (piano, bass, drums, guitar) and vocals. Abu Dhabi Big Band (ADBB) often complements this line up with extra vocals, horns and Latin percussion. Our repertoire also includes celebrated pieces, like Rhapsody in Blue for example, which call for extra string players.

How can I book the Band?

Email info@abudhabibigband.com with your request and your contact details. We aim to respond to all requests and enquiries within 48 hours. Please note that the Client’s Area contains our standard terms and conditions.

Does the Band travel to play outside the UAE?

Yes. We are frequently asked to play in other GCC countries and beyond.

Are smaller jazz or party bands available?

Yes. The full ADBB can supply anything from a solo instrumentalist or vocalist up to the full Big Band. The Abu Dhabi Little Big Band (ADLBB), which comprises 4 horns, a rhythm section and one or two vocalists, is a popular choice for parties and functions. Our repertoire includes an eclectic mix of anything from classic swing numbers to latin grooves, pop, soul, Motown and ska music.

What are the technical requirements for the Big Band?

The technical requirements for the band vary according to the venue, the line up and the nature of the performance. For occasions where we provide background music, most of the instruments can be heard acoustically with minimal amplification for bass, piano guitar and vocals. For full concert, radio and TV productions the Big Band requires a 32 channel mixing desk, 2 vocal and 24 instrumental microphones, and 6 monitors. The Client’s Area contains further information.

Can the Band supply PA and lighting equipment?

For most events we prefer a third party PA company to supply, set up and operate sound and lights. If necessary we can provide experienced sound engineers, stage managers and technicians.

How long does the Band play for?

Performances are always tailored to our Client’s requirements. Whilst we might normally play 3 sets of 45 minutes at a party or function or two longer sets for concert performances, we are always happy to discuss the client’s requirements and create a programme that exceeds expectations.

Can the Band do educational workshops for young and learner musicians as part of a concert package?

Yes. Many of our musicians are also professional music educators. We can design educational workshops to fit in with a range of music syllabuses.

Can the Band do charity performances?

Absolutely. The band has performed for various charities of our choice. In 2011, these included a free community performance at Fete De La Musique and a charity concert for The Angel Appeal.
